copy writing
Nature of the Work
Best case scenario: I like to work as part of a team to develop promotional materials designed
to sell a product, service, person, or idea. The team may include one to ten people related to the
product, service, or idea. (Business owner, manager, marketing and sales reps…)
After all they know their business.
Skill set:
I am skilled and educated in English grammar and have written articles, brochures, SEO and website content, technical sale sheets, short stories, product content, and assembly instructions. On-Line, news/magazine print, collateral and technical inserts are approached differently.
Research and technical content:
A certain amount of research is always required for product and service articles, technical sheets, product content (labels, packaging), assembly instructions, and white papers. Terminology, footnotes and links are often incorporated. Prior history of the organization’s published articles is also incorporated into the creative process.
Advertising - ‘cutting through the gray matter’ :
This is probably the most creative writing process.
My approach is simple. Messages should be read and internalized within Nano seconds.
A headline can leave a lasting impression. Good or Bad.
Industry and product terminology is required - second only to the knowing the competition.
Knowledge and effectiveness of existing or past ad campaigns are also useful.
PR and media relations:
The, “For Immediate Release” format has not changed that much over the last few decades. However, the delivery method has changed because of websites, e-mail blasts, blogs and e-newsletters. Optimized Press Releases are a great tool for announcing news about your business or web site and forging long-lasting back-links.
SEO and Social Media:
Articles need to be informative, include easy-to-read content with both the reader and the search engines in mind. Effective SEO copy writing will help your web site rank higher in the search engines, and at the same time be informative and interesting to the reader. Embedded links are the key to an effective SEO campaign.
Getting a visitor to your site is half the battle, and keeping them there is just as important.
Website Content Development:
I am very experienced in creating well-researched, interesting and informative content for many industries. Website design should also be incorporated into the overall content, look and feel.
